Summary: In 1999, Harvey Dose accompanied Noel Brumm to
Lanesville in southern Indiana to pick up a Cockshutt Noel was
buying. While they were picking up Noel?s tractor, they saw another
one, a 1958 Cockshutt 550, painted black. The owner felt it had a
major problem since the engine didn?t turn when the starter spun. He
was getting married soon and needed extra cash so he agreed to sell
Harvey the tractor at a relatively low price. Once home, Harvey and
Noel fixed the ?major? problem with a punch and hammer. The ring
gear had slipped on the flywheel and simply needed to be tapped back
into place. The only other work Harvey had to do was mount the
prominent bull horns on the grill.
Harvey recently passed away and we will miss seeing him on his black
Cockshutt, as shown here at our 1999 show.
