Northwest Pacific Cruise

On October 12, 2006 nine HCATMA members and ten friends and family of members flew to Seattle, WA to board Celebrity Cruise Line?s MV Mercury to tour British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest by sea. The following is a pictorial tour of a fantastic week!

Sign-In

Members cruising were: Brad and LouAnn Beeson; Mike and Donna Jones; Pat and David Hayes; Ellsworth and Arletta Chapman; and Barb Edmondson.

Two Limos met us at the SEA-TAC Airport. Would you believe one limo was just for our luggage?

Our time spent in Seattle --

Dinner at Dusk atop the Seattle Sky Needle before boarding the Ship the next morning. Would you believe we actually ran into some folks from Brownsburg?

Seattle Skyline with Mount Rainer in the background taken from the Sky Needle.

Other highlights of our time in Seattle was a tour of the Boeing Aircraft factory. I?m sure Mike, Brad and David will tell you all about this if you ask. (The photographer did not go ? alas no photographs). Also, you might ask Brad about almost missing the bus?????

Our first stop was Victoria, British Columbia. A historical landmark in Victoria is the Empress Hotel where many of the Royal Family have stayed. Donna Jones, Pat Hayes, Arletta Chapman and Barb Edmondson attended High Tea. Pictured are Donna and Barb.

Next stop was Vancouver. Unfortunately, this was a ?full? day of rain! Pictured below is in the Historical Gaslight Area. Vancouver is a very cosmopolitan city with a lot of Asian influence.

Ship parked in berth at Vancouver terminal. Sails behind ship are actually affixed atop the Cruise Port Terminal -- very contemporary.

Back to the USA -- Astoria, Oregon was our next stop. Astoria is a very “Victorian” and absolutely beautiful. Here are a few of the sights.

Main Street, Astoria, Oregon

Log truck rolling down Main Street in Astoria. Logging is big business for this area.

Astoria Tower. High above the city and absolutely one of the most panoramic views imaginable.

Following Astoria was a day at sea to rest and relax. We had a euchre tournament and some of us played BINGO and actually won.

San Francisco was our last port to visit.

Fisherman’s Wharf

Alcatraz from a distance…..

San Francisco Cable Car – Just like the TV Show “Streets of San Francisco”

With all the modern day technology, it was amazing to watch three men manually push the Cable Car thru a roundabout to go down the hill.

Other San Francisco area sightseeing –

Arletta Chapman and David Hayes are standing at the entrance of Muir Woods, home of the giant redwoods.

Outdoor café at Sausalito.

Due to some strange maritime law and requirement of visiting a foreign port after visiting an American port, we were required to disembark at Ensenada, Mexico for the bus ride from “h---“ to the San Diego Airport. Our bus actually broke down. Sitting on the side of the road in Mexico is not my favorite thing to do. Eventually our driver figured out what to do to repair the bus and we were under way again – and did not miss our plane home.
